My newest Sailor Slippers! In my head I was picturing a bear but I think it came out more like a mouse. The kids think it looks like a pig. Whatever animal it is, it’s still pretty darn cute and I love them! Need to get some brown wool now to re attempt my bear idea. I think I know where I went wrong!

One very important note about these: we were not able to choose specific notebooks when purchasing. We picked our quantity, and the company just randomly picks them for us, which wasn’t exactly ideal, but I loved these so much that I took the chance. Overall I’m very happy with the selection! Started a new weaving project yesterday! I have too many fiber hobbies and it’s so hard to find the time for everything. I think it’s been at least 8 months since I wove something. I honestly cannot remember.

Wicked! My love! I read the book when I was 16 or 17 and fell in love with the story. Then it came to Chicago in 2005 and Mike took me to go see it and I will forever remember my first time seeing it live. It changed me! If you’re a theater kid/Thespian like me you know how obsessed we become with a show or musical! Theater is our life!!

Last year when the movie came out we took our kids to see it and they became obsessed with the story, music, costumes, everything! We listened to the soundtrack nonstop and it became our entire families identity! Then this summer as part of our family vacation we enjoyed a few days in NYC and I just knew we had to take them to see Wicked on Broadway! It was a must! I cannot believe I got to experience Wicked live on Broadway with my girls! It will forever be a core memory for me and hopefully for them too.

I’ve been wanting to knit a Wicked inspired sweater for a while now and I’m so happy I finally made time for it! I used colorway Paan from our India collection and some pink yarn I had from a test dye. The sweater pattern is the #sunsetsweatshirt by @jessssiemae . I made several icords with the pink yarn for the words and sewed them onto the sweater!

It’s a collection I’ve been dreaming about since 2018 and to finally have it become reality is surreal. I have poured my heart and soul into it. This collection is truly a piece of me and my heart. To be able to share this extremely personal side of myself and my culture means the world to me. And to see you all just as excited as I am makes me so emotional. Thank you! Thank you for listening. I always like to show photos of the earrings being worn. I know sometimes it’s hard to tell the size of them and how they might hang. I hope these help!

I don’t talk much about this part because I never want to sound like I’m bragging, HOWEVER, I am always so proud of our earrings! We use the best earring materials and have had numerous customers over the years tell us that our earrings are the only ones they can wear because they have very sensitive ears. That is seriously the best compliment and feeling ever! I too have incredibly sensitive ears and this was a priority of mine when I started offering earrings. If I could not wear the earrings then they were not good enough to sell. I am so proud of the quality of our earrings. Even our 10yr old who has sensitive ears like me is able to wear Hello Lavender earrings.

On top of them being hypoallergenic, polymer clay is a very lightweight material, which means the majority of my designs are so light. Sometimes it doesn’t even feel like you’re wearing anything! The only design in this collection that has a tiny bit of weight to them are the Mor earrings because of the gold bezel.

The word “Desi” comes from the Sanskrit word “Desh” meaning “country”. The word “Desi” is used to refer to something “from the country”. First base is a new one we’ve added for this collection! It’s New Zealand Romney, which is grown in New Zealand but processed here in the states. It’s approximately 31 microns but please don’t let the microns scare you. Once it’s spun up it’s much softer. It of course won’t be as soft as a merino, but it’s definitely next to skin soft. It also has a 5 inch staple length which makes for an incredibly easy spin! It blooms so nicely once it’s washed and thwacked. I spun a quick 2oz, 2 ply sample for reference! If you love NSW and woolen spun yarns you’ll love this NZ Romney! Plus it dyed up so beautifully! I love how all the colorways turned out.

The next new base we added is Targhee Top, which is grown and processed here in the states. It has a 23 micron count with 3.25 inch staple length. This is incredibly soft and very lofty.
.
The last 2 bases are ones we’ve offered before, BFL/Tussah Silk and Rambouillet! These 2 have been top favorites in our previous fiber collections and will be available again! The BFL/Tussah Silk is 70% BFL and 30% Tussah Silk. Offering silk again was very important to me for this collection as silk is a very prominent fiber/textile in India. Also my name means silky 🥰!

Our Rambouillet is US grown and processed. It has a 21.5 micron count and a staple length of 3 inches. Rambouillet is usually a go to fiber choice for many beginners!

Originally I had only planned to offer these designs as accent packs but when I saw them I just knew I had to offer these as earrings and studs as well.

I painted the pattern on the Buta design gold for the studs to make the design pop a bit more and to represent all the gold hand embroidery and beaded details that are on a lot of sarees! The accent pack version of the design does not have the gold though.

We usually match them to the color of our outfit! These accent markers are inspired by the Chandlos we wear for special occasions! The full pack includes all 11 tonal Colorways. You can also get a brights only pack or a neutrals only pack. Each of those packs also include the Kamala tonal to round them out.

Coconuts are used for several religious ceremonies and rituals. Coconut is also used in a lot of food dishes, sweet and savory. Also, I mentioned this last week but fresh coconut water is an Indian staple! So delicious! The stitch marker set includes both types of coconut!
.
Mangos, another staple. We LOVE our mangos. India is the world’s largest producer of mangos, growing over 1,000 varieties. We grew up drinking Mango Ras which is cold mango nectar. My mom would hand squeeze all the juice out of the mango and it was served with warm roti! I’ve unfortunately never been able to experience fresh mangos while visiting India because we would always visit in January when mangos aren’t in season.

Limes! In Hindi they’re called Nimbu but in Gujarati we call them Limbu. In India you usually find people using limes over lemons. Instead of lemonade we’ll usually make limade. Fresh limeade with a little bit of chaat masala on top is so good. I had some while in India. One of the top sodas in India is Limca which is lime flavored like sprite or 7up, and it’s so tasty! You can find Limca at any Indian grocery store for those who want to try it. We use limes a lot in our cooking as well.

Ba is the word for grandma. This colorway is for my Ba, who passed away earlier this year at the age of 99. Even though she was 99 her passing was still unexpected. She was incredibly healthy but got sick out of nowhere. We really thought she was going to make it 100 and we were all planning on visiting her in India this coming January 😔. This colorway is a tribute to her because she means so much to me. As the eldest in the family she always stood by me and supported me through hard times. When my entire family and extended family didn’t support my relationship with Mike, my Ba was the only one who did. She told everyone as long as I was happy that was all that mattered. I will never forget that 😭💛.

Kamal is the word for lotus which is the national flower of India. The lotus can survive in muddy swamps, shallow fresh waters, and can re-germinate for thousands of years. The lotus is featured prominently in Hindu and Buddhist mythology, religious art, and architecture, with deities like Lakshmi and Brahma usually seated on a lotus throne. The lotus is also used in spiritual practices like Yoga with the lotus position “Padmasana” which signifies spiritual growth.

Kamal stitch markers and earrings! This is one of my favorite designs in the collection. The water which matches the colors of my Ba’s sarees perfectly! The Kamal on top 🪷. There’s even a photo of my Ba wearing a saree that matches the color of the Lotus.

Mitti most commonly refers to the Hindi word for soil, earth, or clay. There’s no actual word for pottery, but depending on the region of India each ceramics artist does have a different name. I LOVE pottery! Pottery from all over the world and especially Indian pottery! A lot of it is usually unglazed and hand painted with the most beautiful intricate designs.

Mitti most commonly refers to the Hindi word for soil, earth, or clay. There’s no actual word for pottery, but depending on the region of India each ceramics artist does have a different name. I LOVE pottery! Pottery from all over the world and especially Indian pottery! A lot of it is usually unglazed and hand painted with the most beautiful intricate designs.

Saree’s are a traditional, long, unstitched piece of fabric, typically made of silk or cotton and draped around the body in various ways to form an elegant piece of clothing. They’re a fundamental part of Indian culture and fashion and so colorful and artistic. I grew up watching my mom wear the most beautiful sarees, so of course she was my inspo for this colorway! She’s so beautiful and looks so regal in her sarees 😍.

Paan, which translates to “leaf”, is a traditional post-meal digestive. Betel leaf is used for this post meal treat. You take a leaf and add some spices such as cloves, cardamom, aniseed, & fennel along with some coconut and sometimes, saffron, dates, etc and fold the leaf into a triangle with everything inside. You then put the entire leaf filled with goodness in your mouth all at once. No taking bites! Paan also helps freshen your breath after a meal. I feel like it’s definitely an acquired taste but I love paan!

Saree stitch markers and earrings. For these designs I incorporated a couple of design elements that are prominent in India. First is the paisley shape, also known as buta, which is a design element often used in many ways all over India, especially in clothing. It also resembles a mango which is one of our favorite fruits in India! The second element in this design is the henna (in Gujarati we call it Mehndi) pattern! Henna is primarily made from dried Lawsonia inermis plant leaves, which contain a natural dye called lawsone that produces a reddish-brown stain, and is used for many differ celebrations. You take the henna powder and mix it with liquids like water, lemon juice, or black tea, and sometimes essential oils to create a paste! You then take the henna paste and draw intricate design on your hands. The paste dries and you rub it all off leaving a deep color stained on your palms. I actually learned how to do henna when I was 10 years old. We went to India and I had a professional henna artist teach me and it’s one of my favorite things to do. I’ve applied henna on several brides for their wedding day, which is so special.

That’s not REAL chai. Chai is how you start the day. Chai is the first thing you offer a guest visiting your home. Chai is what you make during celebrations and hard times for comfort. Chai brings people together. The main technique of making chai is usually the same, but every house will add their own special spice. My dad grinds his own masala mix that we add in ours and it’s so good. A blend of cardamom, cloves, ginger, and more! I love a good spicy chai.

You can find them at any Indian grocery store.

Mor is the word for peacock 🦚! Peacock is the national bird of India, and there are so many wild peacocks roaming all over the country. Their beautiful feathers are often used as inspiration for clothing, jewelry, art, furniture, and architecture! We used peacock feathers for our wedding in my bouquet and wedding cake.

Cricket! India’s sport! My dad grew up playing cricket and played on his college team. He would tell my brother and I so many stories about his cricket days. My dad also had a casual cricket group here and I would go with him and sit on the grass and watch him play with his buddies. Just like many of you would have football days we had cricket days. Cricket matches last so much longer though 😂!

One of my all time favorite memories is from April 2011. India was in the World Cup against Sri Lanka. My dad invited my brother and some of his friends, as well and Mike and I over to watch the game. I asked Mike if we wanted to go, and of course he said yes. Then he asked what time 🤫. I paused for a moment and then casually replied “2am”. Mike laughed and said “No, seriously, what time is the game?” So I told him again, 2am 😂. The game was in India so of course we would be watching it here in the middle of the night. Then he asked me how long the games usually were, and I got to watch his disbelief when I told him they could be around 6 hours 😂. But we went and had so much fun! We were there until 10am watching the game and India won 🎉! That will forever be a core memory, enjoying cricket with my family and finally introducing Mike to the game.

I’ve used this technique a few times for other collections over the years and it is so time consuming and nerve wrecking. There’s no way of knowing if it’ll work until the very end, but if it does, it’s VERY rewarding. High risk, high reward 😂. A giant slab of clay rolled out and sliced into revealing a peacock feather! I posted a few photos of the process at the very end of this post for those interested!

The sun is a vital part of daily life in India and is honored through many rituals and festivals. Many perform the Surya Namaskar or Sun Salutations daily. Sun Salutations are supposed to help improve flexibility, strength, and balance but also helps reduce stress!

My dad used to say this particular phrase to my brother and I constantly growing up: “Early to bed and early to rise makes you healthy, wealthy, and wise”. He would always tell us to wake up with the sun and it annoyed the crap out of us 😂. To this day I am not a morning person, but I do feel guilty if I sleep in too much and feel like I have wasted the day. The saying goes back to the days when farmers had to get up early to be able to finish their work before sunset because there was no electricity. My dad would get up early and help out on the family farm before school.

Ganga. I touched on Ganga briefly a few days ago, but Ganga is the Ganges River which is viewed as sacred in India. It plays a significant role in agriculture and the economy of India but is used for many religious rituals as well.

The Suraj stitch marker set includes 3 markers. First one has the ohm symbol. Chanting ohm is used in meditation to create a sense of calm, which also ties back to the sun. The second marker is the lotus which can grow in the water and ties to Ganga. The third marker is of a person doing yoga 🧘🏾‍♀️. Yoga is another very big part of India and ties back to Sun Salutations.

My mom’s cooking is the absolute best (also super biased opinion lol). In every Indian household you’ll find a tin, usually silver, called dabba filled with 7 key spices to make any Indian dish. The 7 spices may vary slightly from home to home but in my house growing up it included: turmeric, red chili powder, garam masala, cumin/coriander powder called dhana jeeru, mustard/fenugreek seeds, cumin seeds, & ajwain seeds called ajmo.

Chandi is the word for silver. The main material used for pots, pans, containers, plates, bowls, cups, etc in India is stainless steel and even silver the metal (not just the color). All of our kitchenware growing up was stainless steel from India. It lasts forever and my mom still uses them to this day. Holi is a major Hindu festival known as the Festival of Colors 🌈, Love, and beginning of Spring. It’s such a fun holiday. So many colorful shenanigans, sweet treats, music, dancing, and family/friend time!

Gulabi translates to pink. I knew I needed to capture the beautiful vibrant hot pink that I love so much into yarn form! You’ll see this bold color all over India from clothing, bangles, jewelry, bindi, flowers, holi powder, you name it! The one that stands out to me the most and has such an impact is the Gulabi Gang, an all-women vigilante group in India, founded in 2006. Members wear pink saris and help fight for the rights for those who need help with domestic violence, corruption, oppression, and more.

I wanted the Holi stitch marker to showcase a face covered in Holi powder! When you greet someone on Holi you usually take some color and spread it on their cheeks!

Jhumka (JUHM-ka) earrings are my favorite type of earrings from India, and they date all the way back to 300 BCE! The name translates to “little bells”. These earrings were usually worn by royalty and nobles back in the day. I wanted to recreate this classic earring style in polymer clay and I am beyond thrilled with how they came out. It took many trials, but I got there!

We have some new yarn bases for this collection that I am thrilled about, especially our new silk sock base! It’s 50% superwash merino and 50% mulberry silk. Silk is such an important fiber/textile in India and I knew I needed to showcase the colorways on silk! BONUS: my name (Reshma) actually means silky, so silk has an extra special meaning and place in my heart! All the colorways just shine on this base. I hope you all love it as much as I do!

I have been dreaming about this collection for YEARS! No, seriously! When I first started dyeing yarn back in 2018, it was a goal of mine to make India come to life through yarn! Needless to say life took me in a different direction but I found my way back and this collection is giving me all the feels.

I’ve put my heart and soul into this collection. It’s the biggest one I’ve ever done and I am so happy to finally share it with you all.

I’m very impatient, so reveals will start tomorrow! There’s just so much to share.
